Spring is in the air and summer time is around the corner so it's time to start planning for the annual Island Time Birthday Trip to our favorite island in the Caribbean.   Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women, is a fishing village that has retained it's charm and tranquil atmosphere even though it is located just eight miles from the busy metropolis of Cancun.  Only 5 miles long and a half a mile wide, this quaint little piece of paradise was the perfect setting for our group last year and so we are going back July 23-August 2!

Last year we took a 100 people and that's about the max we have room for this year.  Lodging headquarters are at Nautibeach Condominiums.   We have secured the entire property so it will just be our group there this year.We encourage everyone to stay there because it's one of the most beautiful beaches, but also because the beach is private and just for guests of Nautibeach. 

  

Larry Joe will be taking some of his songwriter friends and musicians along, too.  There will be some shows in the mornings and some shows in the evenings at our musical headquarters, Jax Bar and some happy hours too!.  Jax is within walking distance of Nautibeach and is the perfect setting for listening to acoustic shows or band jams.  They also have some of the best food on the island!

 

Many spend the days relaxing on the powder white beach, snorkeling or diving in the crystal blue waters or just lounging in a hammock  under their favorite palapa. We'll gather on the beach daily to watch the magnificent sunsets.  By night you have the choice to cook your own fresh fish purchased from the fishermen in the morning or dine in nearby down town on fabulous meals of every variety. After the shows take a relaxing stroll through the moonlit streets while breathing in the ocean air. If you're so inclined, take in some of the abundant nightlife and maybe even dance your way 'til dawn.  

 

Those that rent golf carts can join the group one day to take a golf cart tour around the entire island to see the sites with plenty of stops at the beautiful beach front palapa bars.  

 

It's all about relaxing with good music, good friends and sharing GOOD TIMES!  

 

Nautibeach is on North Beach and has a beautiful private beach. We have about 30 condos to rent on this property, all of which are newly remodeled with two bedrooms, one bath, a separate vanity/sink area outside the bathroom, a full kitchen, dining and living room.  Each condo has a patio and all are pool and ocean view. All condos are a very short walking distance to the beach and pool.

 

 

There is bar service on the beach or you can take your own.   There is a restaurant onsite and a large, beautiful swimming pool with a swim up bar.  The service is excellent and includes daily maid service and plenty of bottled water for the entire stay.  Amenities include a library, a video library, beach towels and the staff can arrange any kind of trip you want, arrange for in room massages that are excellent, and even have a golf cart delivered to you.  For a small tip, long time employee,  Fidel,  will do anything for you, such as deliver a daily newspaper,buy supplies at the store, etc.

One of the things we love about Jax is that it's owned and operated by former Texans,  Jackie and Michael, who make you feel welcome and at home the minute you walk in!  All our shows and happy hours are held on the upstairs deck at Jax, located on North Beach just next to the lighthouse and within easy walking distance of Nautibeach.

  

Downstairs there are TV's - all in English. They also have billiards, draft beer, great food and  specialty drinks, fantastic service and clean bathrooms. Upstairs is an open-air restaurant & bar (thanks to Hurricane Wilma) and a newly completed deck, all overlooking the ocean.

 There extensive menu has over 60 items to choose from and if you require something special just let them know. They will do whatever to keep you happy! The menu includes their famous JAX Burger to fantastic fish tacos, fajitas, conch fritters, steak, lobster, soups, salads, coconut shrimp, Cajun chicken, etc. The list goes on and on. They are open for breakfast everyday at 8:00am complete with CNN & Fox News & fantastic bloody marys!

Their fully stocked bar offers everything from buckets of ice-cold Corona (always $60 pesos) to Bud, Bud Lite, Grey Goose Vodka, Jack Daniels, Glenfiddich Scotch and lots more. Try our frozen specialty drinks, non-alcoholic drinks or Dom Perignon. 

The trip is July 23-August 2.  You can stay the whole 10 days or for a shorter time.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

FLIGHTS

Individuals make their own flight  arrangements.  We recommend searching for flights on www.cheaptickets.com.  The rates continually go up and down so we recommend that you check for

 

TRANSFERS

Individuals need to be transferred from the Cancun Airport to the Gran Puerto Ferry and back.  You can either get a taxi once you arrive at the airport (there are many lined up and waiting) and the cost varies from $25 to $35 one way

OR

You can make advance transfer arrangements.  We recommend you use Best Day Travel.  We've had very good luck with them, their vans are spacious, new and air conditioned and they have been very reliable.  Right now the cost is $17 per person round trip.
